Asia Group Functions Lead Data Engineer

About the role

Manulife is building new data capabilities to become a digital customer leader. The Asia Group Functions Lead Data Engineer will design, implement and optimise data pipelines and integrations that support strategic business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor and coach a team of data engineers, ensuring project timelines and high‑quality delivery.
• Design, develop and manage scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python/PySpark, Java and Scala.
• Collaborate with data analysts, scientists and business partners to translate requirements into robust data solutions.
• Optimise ETL processes for real‑time and batch workloads, implement data cleansing, enrichment and transformation.
• Define data quality checks, testing plans and governance controls to maintain accuracy and compliance.
• Work with architects to design end‑to‑end data architecture and document pipelines and configurations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field (Master’s a plus).
• 10+ years of experience as a Data Engineer with proven expertise in Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python/PySpark, Java or Scala.
• Strong knowledge of Azure infrastructure (subscriptions, RBAC, VNet, private endpoints) and DevOps practices (GitHub, Jenkins CI/CD).
• Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2), Azure Synapse and data‑mart design concepts.
