About the role
The Public Affairs Office of Hong Kong Metropolitan University is seeking an Assistant Public Affairs Manager to support its Public Relations team. Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the role involves creating communication materials, managing media relations and supporting university events.
Key responsibilities
- Develop internal and external communications materials such as press releases, campus stories, research stories, student achievement stories, social media posts, speeches, column articles, advertorials and presentations, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and strategic goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with media and stakeholders to enhance university publicity.
- Act as primary media contact, handling enquiries, interviews, photo/video shoots, media pitches and maintaining media contact lists.
- Monitor media coverage, assess public perception and identify improvement opportunities.
- Manage and update the university website to promote its image.
- Plan and coordinate media events and support university‑level events, including logistics and media marshaling.
- Handle general enquiries and complaints, liaising with internal and external parties.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Public Affairs.
Required profile
- Recognised university degree with at least 5 years relevant post‑qualification experience.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese; Putonghua proficiency is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of the media landscape and daily operations.
- Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, analytical with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Good team player with strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to multitask, manage projects independently and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Flexible to work outside office hours when required.
Required skills
- Proficiency with social media platforms.
- Familiarity with web technologies and website management.
