Legal Counsel – Construction

About the role

The Legal Counsel will report to the Head of Legal and act as a trusted legal partner, delivering practical, commercially focused guidance across a broad range of legal matters for construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate construction contracts, subcontracts, consultancy and vendor agreements.
• Review tender documents and advise business units on potential legal risks.
• Manage construction‑related disputes, claims, arbitrations and litigation, coordinating external counsel.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice on operational, commercial and regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with local industry regulations, occupational health and safety rules and corporate governance frameworks.
• Monitor legal budgets and control external legal expenditures.
• Support corporate matters, review general contracts, update internal policies and conduct legal research as needed.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5 years post‑qualification experience in Hong Kong or another common‑law jurisdiction.
• Mid‑level experience (5‑10+ years) from reputable private‑practice firms or in‑house legal departments.
• Exposure to construction law, engineering projects, real‑estate development, litigation and disciplinary proceedings is an advantage.

Required skills

• Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (including Mandarin).
• Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic, solutions‑oriented risk judgment.
• Team player with strong initiative, interpersonal, negotiation and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
