Technical Applications Engineer (Substation Protection & Control)

About the role

The power grid is changing, and engineers who understand it best will shape its future. As a Lead Engineer in Substation Protection and Control within GE Vernova's Grid Automation business, you will combine deep technical expertise with direct customer impact, delivering substation automation, protection, and control solutions to address complex challenges and accelerate grid modernisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead customer‑facing technical engagements, present GE Vernova's Grid Automation offerings, gather feedback, and influence product development.
• Execute and support engineering design of substation protection and control systems, ensuring compliance with standards and program requirements.
• Act as the technical bridge between central product lines, regional sales, tendering, application teams, channel partners, and customers.
• Develop and communicate technical solutions, recommend approaches, prepare action plans, and support approval of new solutions that grow market share.
• Participate in internal and external program reviews, documenting all technical outputs.
• Build and sustain long‑term customer relationships through technical credibility and consistent communication.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant experience in substation automation, protection systems, and industrial communication protocols.
• Hands‑on expertise across the full project lifecycle – design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of HV or MV Substation Automation and Protection systems.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, substation digital control systems, protection fundamentals, and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Cantonese.
