DC System Engineer

About the role

The Data Center System Engineer will work within AWS Infrastructure Services to ensure the reliable operation of colocation facilities that host critical AWS infrastructure. You will act as the primary technical liaison between AWS and external colocation providers, supporting day‑to‑day operations, emergency response, and continuous improvement of safety and availability.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the interface with colocation providers' technical and facility teams for daily operational needs.
• Coordinate with on‑site providers and contractors to guarantee compliance with AWS practices, procedures, and local regulations.
• Monitor supplier maintenance activities and respond to emergencies involving switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units, and building monitoring systems.
• Create change‑management requests and incident tickets for data‑center facilities.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, handling power failures, natural disasters, and refining Emergency Operations Procedures.
• Collaborate with providers and contractors to resolve engineering issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Contribute to initiatives that improve data‑center safety, security, and availability.
• Facilitate rack installations and conduct assessments of rack space, power, and cooling capacity.

Required skills

• Knowledge of switchgear, generators, UPS systems, and power distribution equipment.
• Experience with chillers, cooling towers, and computer‑room‑air‑handler (CRAH) units.
• Familiarity with building monitoring and control systems.
• Proficiency in change‑management and incident‑management processes.
• Hands‑on experience with rack installation and power/cooling capacity assessments.
