Assistant Professor – Public History

About the role

The Department of History at The Chinese University of Hong Kong invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Public History, commencing 2 August 2027. The successful candidate will join a pioneering department that offers an MA in Comparative and Public History and a new undergraduate stream in the same field.

Key responsibilities

• Teach an introductory methodology course in Public History and two additional courses per term (reduced to one in the first term).
• Develop and deliver innovative curricula that bridge scholarly and public audiences.
• Maintain an active research agenda with plans for future publications.
• Engage with community, governmental and non‑governmental organisations through public‑facing projects.
• Contribute to departmental service, including mentorship of students.

Required profile

• PhD in History or a closely related discipline by 1 August 2027.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and student mentorship.
• Evidence of public‑history practice and community impact.
• Strong publication record appropriate to career stage.
• Fluency in English for teaching; knowledge of Chinese is an advantage.
