Associate Professor – First Peoples Medicine (Indigenous)

About the role

The University of New South Wales is seeking an Associate Professor to lead First Peoples Medicine initiatives. This senior academic appointment combines clinical practice, education, and community partnership to advance health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for First Peoples medical education and clinical innovation across the School of Clinical Medicine.
• Design and deliver culturally safe curricula, embedding Indigenous health perspectives throughout medical training.
• Maintain an active medical practice, receiving clinical loading to support ongoing patient care.
• Mentor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and junior clinicians.
• Develop and strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and community stakeholders.
• Contribute to national health reform and research agendas focused on Indigenous health outcomes.

Required profile

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (genuine occupational qualification).
• PhD or equivalent senior academic qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Extensive experience in medical education, curriculum design, and clinical practice.
• Demonstrated leadership in Indigenous health, community engagement, and health equity initiatives.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise as a qualified medical doctor.
• Experience in curriculum development and academic leadership.

What we offer

• Base salary $193,000–$212,000 per year plus superannuation and leave loading.
