Associate Professor – Psychology & Counselling

About the role

The Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education invites applications for an Associate Professor position in Psychology and/or Counselling. The appointment is on a three‑year fixed‑term basis, with the possibility of renewal, and the successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing psychological science and counselling practice.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑quality research in counselling, counselling psychology, educational psychology or related fields, leading to publications in leading international journals.
• Secure competitive external research funding and lead or participate in collaborative projects.
• Teach and develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses in psychology and counselling, including supervision of honours projects, dissertations and higher‑degree research students.
• Provide practicum and fieldwork supervision for counselling or psychology trainees in partnership with schools, NGOs and community organisations.
• Take on academic leadership roles such as programme coordination, curriculum development and committee work within the department and university.
• Engage in knowledge transfer and community or professional services related to mental health, student development and wellbeing.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology or a closely related discipline.
• Strong record of scholarship with publications in leading international journals and successful grant applications appropriate to the rank.
• Demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching and experience in curriculum and programme development.
• Evidence of supervision of postgraduate students or professional trainees is highly desirable.
• Professional training or registration in counselling or psychology and experience delivering services in educational or community settings is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is an advantage.
