Clerk of Works

About the role

The Clerk of Works will conduct daily site inspections to verify that construction work complies with architectural and structural drawings, contractual specifications and statutory regulations. The role involves coordinating with contractors and consultants to monitor quality, safety and progress on site.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily site inspections to ensure work complies with architectural/structural drawings.
• Verify that builders adhere to contractual specifications, approved drawings, method statements and relevant regulations.
• Ensure proper sequencing of works according to the master programme.
• Document and report defects, non‑compliant work or deviations from specifications.
• Attend site meetings with contractors and consultants.
• Monitor material quality and workmanship standards during site inspections.
• Report construction progress, technical issues and risks to the Project Manager and support testing and handover activities.
• Prepare daily/weekly reports for the Project Manager.
• Coordinate with consultants and contractors on installation performance, defect rectification and safety measures.
• Provide accurate information for valuation of works, progress claims, variations and cost assessments.

Required profile

• Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building/Construction Management or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Clerk of Works on addition & alteration projects.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently on‑site.
• Proven ability to identify site issues, ensure installation quality and supervise contractors effectively.
