Head of Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation

About the role

The Head of Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation will lead HSBC's Banking Financial Resource Management (FRM) function, building an active capability to optimise the bank's balance sheet and improve Return on Tangible Equity (RoTE) across Banking and Global CIB. Reporting to senior leadership, the role works across Hong Kong or London and collaborates with multiple stakeholder groups.

Key responsibilities

• Establish a granular, active steering capability to optimise Banking and Global CIB RoTE.
• Collaborate on a precision pricing framework and metrics to signal correct economics to bankers.
• Own the Banking Global Booking Model and drive marginal pricing pilots.
• Manage distribution requests to Portfolio Optimisation and develop internal distribution mechanisms.
• Partner with Banking FRM, CCM COO, and Portfolio teams to enhance banker tools for financial resource impact.
• Support the Global Head of Banking FRM on liquidity and IRRBB economic strategies.
• Create governance frameworks for the Balance Sheet Steering and Optimisation sub‑pillar.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, group policies and governance standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in credit, capital management or banking FRM at a senior level.
• Proven ability to design and implement balance‑sheet steering and optimisation frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across business lines, risk, treasury and senior management.
• Leadership capability to inspire teams and communicate a clear vision.
• Deep understanding of banking economics, pricing signals and RoTE drivers.
