Laboratory Technician II – Science Department

About the role

The Science Department at Renaissance College is looking for a Laboratory Technician II to support safe and effective laboratory practice for students from Year 7 to Year 13. The role involves preparing materials, assisting teachers, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Lab Technician I in establishing and maintaining health and safety procedures.
• Provide risk‑assessment guidance for science lessons.
• Manage proper disposal of chemicals and maintain inventory of apparatus and equipment.
• Prepare chemicals, apparatus, and practical resources for MYP and DP science classes.
• Support teachers during lessons, demonstrate experiments, and trial new experiments for safety and feasibility.
• Collaborate with the laboratory team to set up practical materials and equipment.
• Offer technical expertise on Vernier data loggers and related technology.
• Contribute to professional development and share best practices across the ESF network.
• Assist with annual wishlist preparation and ad‑hoc projects as required.

Required profile

• Laboratory technician diploma or equivalent certification.
• Relevant experience working with secondary‑school students (Year 7‑13).
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems and handle physical tasks such as transporting equipment.
• Team‑player with capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Permanent Hong Kong residency or a valid work visa.

Required skills

• Familiarity with Vernier data loggers.
• Proficiency in Google Suite applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications.
