Locum Veterinary Surgeon

About the role

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is seeking a Locum Veterinary Surgeon to provide high‑quality clinical care for racehorses at its Sha Tin and Conghua racecourses. Reporting to the Head of Veterinary Clinical Services, the role supports the Club’s commitment to horse welfare, racing integrity and bio‑security.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive veterinary services, including diagnosis, treatment, preventive care and emergency response for Thoroughbred racehorses.
• Provide specialist surgical support and expert consultation on complex equine cases.
• Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, racing integrity standards and bio‑security protocols.
• Conduct pre‑race examinations, health monitoring and injury‑prevention strategies.
• Collaborate with trainers, owners and internal stakeholders through clear communication and professional reporting.
• Participate in race‑day veterinary services, incident management and post‑mortem investigations.
• Support horse import/export processes, insurance evaluations and international racing activities.

Required profile

• Primary degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine, preferably registrable with the Veterinary Surgeons’ Board in Hong Kong.
• Post‑graduate training or qualification in equine surgery, sports medicine, diagnostic imaging or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in equine racetrack medicine, including routine care, prevention, diagnosis and management of conditions in Thoroughbred racehorses.
• Strong interest in sports medicine, rehabilitation and equine athlete performance.
• Passion for Thoroughbred flat racing and equine medicine.
