Mechanical Engineer (Ph.D.) – Mechanical Engineering Practice

About the role

Exponent is looking for a highly qualified Mechanical Engineer with a Ph.D. to join its Mechanical Engineering Practice in Hong Kong. The role focuses on designing, building and executing customized mechanical, electrical and environmental tests that support product development and failure analysis for consumer and industrial electronics products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, construct and run mechanical, electrical and environmental test fixtures and programs.
• Perform experimental testing, data acquisition, field inspections and engineering analysis.
• Apply scientific principles and creative problem‑solving at the interface of mechanical, electrical and materials disciplines.
• Interact with clients, managers, peer engineers, laboratory staff and non‑technical personnel.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (e.g., Machine Design, Applied Mechanics, Mechatronics, Mechanics of Materials).
• Hands‑on experience with consumer or industrial electronics products and related mechanical, electrical or thermal testing.
• Knowledge of materials characterization techniques such as metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and computed tomography (CT) scanning.
• Familiarity with common metal and non‑metal materials and with stress/force sensing technologies (strain gauges, load cells, displacement sensors).
