Museum Director – Hong Kong Palace Museum

About the role

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is seeking a Museum Director to lead the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM). Reporting to the CEO, the Director will shape the museum’s strategic direction, programming, and public profile, ensuring alignment with the Authority’s vision of making the district a premier cultural destination.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall strategy and programme of HKPM.
• Oversee governance policies and ensure they reflect the objectives of the WKCDA and HKPM boards.
• Steer collection and content development, coordinating with the Palace Museum, donors, sponsors and other stakeholders.
• Negotiate exhibition agreements, including artefact selection, loan terms, insurance, conservation and IP rights.
• Design destination planning, events, education, professional development, cultural exchange and publication programmes.
• Lead fundraising activities, cultivating major gifts, donations and sponsorship for operations and special projects.
• Promote the museum’s brand locally, in Mainland China and internationally, and represent HKPM at conferences and events.
• Manage budgeting, key performance targets, and new revenue streams such as museum shops and restaurants.
• Collaborate with WKCDA functional teams to ensure effective facilities, safety, security and corporate services.

Required profile

• Demonstrated passion for realising the vision and mission of the West Kowloon Cultural District.
• Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including boards, donors, sponsors and partner museums.
• Ability to lead strategic planning, fundraising and public‑facing initiatives for a major cultural institution.
