Music Technician for School Ensembles

About the role

Discovery College is seeking a Music Technician to support its music curriculum, ensembles and school‑wide performances. The role combines classroom assistance, technical audio support and administrative duties to ensure smooth delivery of music activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers with music lessons, move and set up equipment, and maintain tidy learning spaces.
• Set up, sound‑check and operate audio equipment for ensembles, concerts, assemblies and other school events, and record performances.
• Maintain and troubleshoot musical instruments, PA systems, microphones and related AV gear, ensuring they are in good working order.
• Manage inventory, place orders, stock‑take, and coordinate the peripatetic music tutor programme and instrument hire.
• Undertake additional duties as requested by the Head of Music or delegated representatives.

Required profile

• Strong initiative, self‑management and organisational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with fluency in English (Cantonese an advantage).
• Creative, flexible problem‑solver who can work both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to student safety, confidentiality and professional development.

Required skills

• Sound Engineering background.
• Audio engineering and live‑recording experience.
• Operation and maintenance of AV equipment, PA systems and microphones.
• Basic IT proficiency for audio file management and equipment inventory.
