Production Editor – Business

About the role

The Business desk of SCMP is looking for a Production Editor to ensure the highest editorial standards across a fast‑moving news environment. You will lead copy accuracy, enrich stories with media and SEO, and coordinate cross‑functional teams to deliver timely, engaging business coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accuracy of copy, ensuring it is error‑free, fact‑checked and legally sound.
• Manage copy improvements through editing, rewriting and grammar checks.
• Add value to stories with additional media, visual elements and SEO optimisation.
• Distill large volumes of material into compelling narratives.
• Meet tight output deadlines and turn around raw copy quickly when needed.
• Schedule assignments to maintain a steady flow of pages and avoid bottlenecks.
• Create, source and publish engaging, reliable and shareable content.
• Collaborate closely with writers, graphic designers and other staff.

Required profile

• Degree or higher in Journalism, Communication, Language or related fields.
• At least 8 years of experience in real‑time online news, wire services, newspapers or production.
• Management experience is desirable.
• Excellent news judgment and clear, concise communication.
• Strong understanding of Hong Kong, the region and international business contexts.
• Meticulous fact‑checking ability and capacity to work under tight deadlines.
• Top‑notch English writing style with imaginative flair.
• Ability to craft SEO‑friendly headlines and social‑media copy that boost traffic.
• Self‑starter with initiative, problem‑anticipation and task‑prioritisation skills.
