Resident Safety Officer – Construction

About the role

The Resident Safety Officer (Construction) will be based at HKUST, Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong, providing on‑site safety leadership for building projects. This role ensures compliance with health and safety legislation, supports contractors, and drives continuous improvement of safety practices.

Key responsibilities

• Report on‑site safety status to the Client and Contract Administrator and perform assigned duties.
• Conduct routine safety supervision for building construction activities.
• Identify unsafe acts and conditions, enforce immediate corrective actions, and monitor compliance.
• Ensure implementation of contractor safety precautionary measures.
• Investigate near‑misses, incidents, and accidents; prepare detailed reports, recommend preventive measures, and track corrective actions to closure.
• Maintain site compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and contract requirements.
• Carry out ad‑hoc inspections and attend relevant safety meetings.

Required profile

• Registered Safety Officer and Safety Auditor under the Labour Department.
• Minimum 10 years of solid construction site experience.
• Experience on hospital projects or client‑side construction projects preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese.
• Willingness to work on Saturdays and Sundays with compensatory time off as assigned.
