Senior Data Engineer - Asia Group Functions

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Manulife, you will help build and maintain the company's data systems and architecture. You will work with other data engineers, data architects and the governance team to design, develop and deploy data pipelines, ETL processes and other data integration solutions that move data from many sources into the data warehouse.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and other services
• Maintain the data architecture, including data models, schemas and data dictionaries
• Integrate data from various sources, ensuring quality and consistency, and prepare it for analytical and operational use
• Follow data governance policies to protect data security, privacy and compliance
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and business teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions
• Keep up with new tools and technologies and adopt best practices in big data and cloud computing

Required profile

• 6 or more years of relevant experience as a Data Engineer
• Experience building and running data pipelines in Microsoft Azure with Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks
• Experience automating data pipelines and familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• Good knowledge of Azure services (SQL queries, ADLS Gen 2, ADF, Databricks, Synapse, SQL Server)
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and relational data modelling
• Familiarity with production release and operational support models
• Understanding of Agile Scrum and experience in an Agile team, with tools such as Teams, JIRA and Mural
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn continuously

Required skills

• Programming in compiled languages (Java, Scala) and scripting languages (Python, SQL, R)
• Data processing, performance analysis, tuning and capacity planning
