Senior Video Producer

About the role

The Senior Video Producer will help shape the South China Morning Post’s video news agenda, creating short‑form, long‑form, explainer and interview pieces that tell stories from Hong Kong, China and around the world. You will lead a daily news shift, mentor a team of associate producers, and ensure high‑quality video output.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a news shift, managing associate producers to produce videos on top stories, especially from Hong Kong, China, Asia and breaking news worldwide.
• Identify story ideas by scanning news feeds and social media, then assign them to producers with clear briefs.
• Edit scripts for accuracy, flow, grammar and house style; review and approve final videos before publishing.
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to associate producers and video producers.
• Pitch original video concepts and refine pitches from other producers.
• Occasionally conduct field work – shooting, editing and hosting original video stories.
• Deputise for senior roles as needed and work shift hours from early morning to mid‑afternoon or mid‑afternoon to late evening.

Required profile

• Passionate about video journalism and modern storytelling techniques.
• Native‑level English; Cantonese and Mandarin are a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of video production experience in a daily news environment, with the ability to turn breaking news into video quickly.
• Strong script‑writing and copy‑editing experience for video.
• Proven experience leading video projects, giving feedback and mentoring staff.
• Comfortable working under pressure while overseeing multiple stories during a shift.

Required skills

• Adobe Premiere Pro (Adobe Creative Cloud suite).
• Professional DSLR and large‑sensor cameras such as Sony FX3, FX30 and FX6.
