About the role

The Specialist, Modern & Contemporary Art will drive the full sales cycle for Phillips’ art auctions in Hong Kong, working closely with internal experts and external clients to maximise connoisseurship and profitability. This senior position combines curatorial insight, market knowledge and sales acumen to deliver high‑quality auction catalogues and pre‑sale exhibitions.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate artworks for inclusion in sales, collaborate with specialists to set estimates and sales terms.
• Oversee financial arrangements for consignments, including guarantee deals.
• Curate sale content and manage catalogue production, from condition checks to layout and copyright approvals.
• Design and execute pre‑sale exhibition layouts in partnership with Operations and Art Handlers.
• Lead client‑focused pre‑sale activities, targeting buyers and developing tailored selling plans.
• Approve marketing materials and coordinate special exhibitions, highlight tours, and international events.
• Identify high‑value consignments, conduct post‑sale analysis, and set future sales targets.
• Supervise the Sales Administrator and Cataloguer, providing performance management and coaching.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of modern and contemporary art markets.
• Proven experience in art auction sales, curating, and catalogue production.
• Strong network among collectors, dealers, curators and museum professionals.
• Excellent client‑relationship skills and ability to develop targeted selling strategies.
• Leadership experience supervising junior staff.
