Tenure-Track Professor in Global Iberian Empires

About the role

The University of Hong Kong invites applications for a full‑time position at the rank of Professor, Associate Professor (tenure terms) or tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Global Iberian Empires within the School of Humanities (History). The appointment is expected to start on 1 August 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including broad surveys of Latin American history, taught in English.
• Maintain a world‑class research agenda focused on the early modern Iberian empires (1450‑1800) with comparative, global perspectives.
• Secure competitive research funding and produce high‑impact scholarly publications.
• Supervise theses and mentor junior scholars.
• Contribute to departmental leadership, academic administration, and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in History.
• Strong research record in social and cultural history, especially slavery, gender, indigenous studies, or maritime East Asia connections.
• Commitment to innovative, research‑led teaching.
