Underwriting Manager – Personal Lines & New Products

About the role

This role leads, drives and is accountable for the underwriting strategy and performance of Personal Lines (excluding Motor and A&H) within the Retail segment of Zurich’s Hong Kong Business Unit, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the portfolio for non‑Motor, non‑A&H Personal Lines and support new product development.
• Lead the development and execution of the underwriting strategy for Personal Lines to achieve targeted portfolio performance.
• Identify opportunities and risks using data and insights, and implement changes to meet desired outcomes.
• Leverage market trends and distribution dynamics to design new products and services.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to deliver business objectives.
• Work with local underwriting teams to ensure consistency and adherence to underwriting standards.

Required profile

• Degree holder with at least five years of relevant insurance experience.
• Familiarity with a wide range of General Insurance products.
• Insurance Professional Qualification is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of general insurance underwriting and operations.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese required, Mandarin preferred).
• Customer‑oriented with excellent communication and complaint handling abilities.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Ability to make decisions, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Team player with a “can‑do” attitude and willingness to learn.
• Basic knowledge of PC software.
