Assistant Manager, Life Underwriting

About the role

Prudential is looking for an Assistant Manager, Life Underwriting. The role reviews and assesses new insurance applications against underwriting guidelines and risk management principles, works with reinsurers on reinsurance matters, and supports sales representatives through training and clear communication.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyse new insurance applications for risk exposure and compliance with underwriting guidelines and risk management principles.
• Negotiate with reinsurers on reinsurance-related matters.
• Maintain effective, proactive communication with key sales representatives so business flows smoothly and correctly.
• Train sales representatives to improve their underwriting knowledge.
• Provide expert technical advice and respond professionally to enquiries from sales channels.
• Act as the first point of contact for appeals and complaints, and resolve escalated underwriting issues with flexible solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree holder with professional insurance qualifications such as FLMI, ACS, ALU or equivalent.
• At least 6 years of solid underwriting experience in life insurance, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Medical underwriting authority of not less than extra mortality 100%; high net worth experience preferred.
• Good integrity, quality orientation, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Solutions thinker with strong analytical skills, open-minded, flexible, proactive and stress-positive.
• Leadership and team-building skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).
