Data Center Inventory & Asset Technician

About the role

As a Data Center Inventory & Asset Technician you will support Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation team by managing inventory cycles, handling incoming and outgoing deliveries, and ensuring secure handling of third‑party vendor activities within our data center environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cycle audits and track physical inventory across data center assets.
• Execute incoming and outgoing deliveries, including documentation and staging.
• Coordinate security escorts for third‑party vendors and manage warranty claim processes.
• Process Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) shipments in line with Service Level Agreements.
• Maintain accurate records in configuration management databases (CMDB) and other asset management repositories.
• Reconcile inventory discrepancies and generate related reports.
• Destroy data‑bearing devices following established procedures.

Required profile

• Ability to work with minimal supervision while adhering to strict SLAs.
• Strong attention to detail and focus on the impact of inventory tasks.
• Excellent organizational skills for tracking and reporting inventory data.

Required skills

• Experience with configuration management databases (CMDB).
• Proficiency in asset management systems or repositories.
• Knowledge of data‑bearing device destruction procedures.
