Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer for MA in Chinese Language & Literature

About the role

The School of Chinese invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Lecturer position in the Master of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature (MACLL) programme. The appointment starts on 1 December 2026 (or as soon as possible) on a two‑year fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Teach MACLL courses and selected undergraduate modules in Chinese language and literature.
• Supervise student dissertations and research projects.
• Assist in organising MACLL field trips and related academic activities.
• Carry out programme administrative duties as directed by the Programme Director.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chinese Language and Literature or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of three years of post‑doctoral teaching experience at the tertiary level or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a record of scholarly activity.
• Administrative experience in higher‑education settings.
• Preference for expertise in classical Chinese literature, especially poetry, prose, or gender studies in Chinese literary contexts.

Required skills

• Strong command of classical and modern Chinese literary analysis.
• Effective curriculum design and delivery for graduate‑level courses.
• Ability to mentor and supervise graduate research.
