Legal Counsel – Group Legal Team

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join the Group Legal team and serve as the dedicated lawyer for WeLab Bank. Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer and Group General Counsel, you will provide pragmatic, forward‑looking legal advice to support the bank’s business.

Key responsibilities

• Handle a broad spectrum of legal matters, including emerging technology applications, customer‑facing documentation, marketing and media arrangements, distribution partnerships, and third‑party agreements such as sponsorships and consultancy contracts.
• Provide clear, commercially sound advice on legal and regulatory issues across the bank’s operations.
• Identify, monitor, and manage legal risks, supporting the design and implementation of compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, and monitoring tools.
• Coordinate and oversee external counsel, managing legal spend and performance.
• Deliver practical training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance topics.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of post‑qualification experience, including in‑house exposure and work with a reputable law firm.
• Qualified in Hong Kong, the UK, Australia, or Singapore with strong commercial legal experience.
• Professional proficiency in both Chinese and English.
• Solid experience in IT, banking and financial‑services contracts, data privacy, and retail wealth‑management matters.
• Proven experience handling regulatory enquiries and investigations; litigation experience is a plus.
• Strong commercial acumen, self‑driven, collaborative, and excellent stakeholder‑management skills.
