Medical Consultant – Underwriting & Claims (Hong Kong)

About the role

We are looking for a Medical Consultant to join the Underwriting and Claims team at our Hong Kong branch. In this permanent, full‑time position you will provide medical expertise to support product development, underwriting decisions and claims assessments across several Asian markets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice and respond to internal and external medical enquiries, ensuring alignment with Hannover Re’s philosophy and local market conditions in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and Mongolia.
• Assist internal and external clients in developing new medical and critical‑illness insurance products.
• Design and deliver training programmes on underwriting, medical and claims topics.
• Conduct research on current underwriting, medical and claims issues and produce risk assessments for life and health applications.
• Evaluate claims in accordance with policy terms and support internal and external audit activities.
• Represent the branch at industry bodies, seminars and workshops.
• Stay up‑to‑date with medical advances and share knowledge with underwriting and claims teams.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent clinical qualification).
• Experience in insurance product development, medical research or health‑service provider management is an advantage.
• Fluency in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese); Bahasa Indonesia is a plus.
• Strong communication ability to translate medical knowledge into underwriting and claims decisions.
• Analytical skills for interpreting medical data and literature.
