Research Assistant Professor

About the role

The Department of Electronic Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor (RAP) position. The role focuses on pioneering energy‑saving technologies that combine innovative materials, devices and intelligent optical modulation, supporting both fundamental research and teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑impact research projects in smart materials, optical modulation and machine‑learning‑driven energy‑saving applications.
• Secure external funding through competitive grants such as the RGC GRF and develop sustainable research programmes.
• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supervise student research.
• Contribute to departmental, faculty and university service activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
• Strong publication record in reputable journals, especially in smart‑material research.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Demonstrated potential to become an independent researcher with a track record of obtaining extramural funding.
