Research Assistant Professor – Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

About the role

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking highly motivated researchers to join as Research Assistant Professors. The role involves leading independent and collaborative projects in drug discovery, drug delivery system development, and disease mechanism studies, contributing to the department’s mission of excellence in clinical services, research, training and education.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct, coordinate and supervise independent or collaborative research projects focused on drug discovery, modification, delivery systems and disease mechanisms, ensuring rigorous experimental design and data analysis.
• Actively pursue external research grants, prepare competitive proposals, and manage awarded funds to support ongoing and future studies.
• Supervise research students and staff, providing mentorship, training in laboratory techniques, and guidance on scientific writing.
• Handle administrative tasks related to research projects, including reporting, compliance, and departmental duties as assigned.

Required profile

• PhD in biomedical engineering, translational chemistry, biomaterials, molecular biology or a closely related discipline, with a strong academic background.
• Minimum of two years post‑doctoral research experience, demonstrated by a competitive publication record in leading peer‑reviewed journals, preferably with relevance to ophthalmology.
• Proven ability to lead research projects, self‑motivation, initiative in problem‑solving, and clear potential to rapidly develop into an independent Principal Investigator.
• Successful track record in securing research funding is highly desirable.
