Asia Markets Correspondent (Hong Kong)

About the role

The Financial Times is hiring an Asia Markets Correspondent based in Hong Kong to cover major stories in global finance. The role focuses on government bond yields, Chinese IPOs, tech‑sector trading, currency interventions and the growing influence of Asian financial centres. It combines fast‑moving spot news with in‑depth market analysis and storytelling.

Key responsibilities

• Cover breaking financial‑market news across Asia, including the impact of US interest‑rate moves.
• Produce front‑page splash pieces and detailed analysis for the FT website and newspaper.
• Interview investors, traders and market participants to uncover story ideas.
• Collaborate with colleagues in Hong Kong, London and the global FT network, including FT Alphaville.
• Represent the FT at events and in media appearances as required.

Required profile

• Strong instinct for market movements and the ability to translate them into compelling stories.
• Excellent news‑writing skills in English, with experience producing spot news and analytical pieces.
• Proactive communicator who regularly pitches ideas to editors and meets deadlines.
• Team‑oriented mindset, comfortable collaborating with colleagues worldwide.
