Director, Fixed Income Portfolio Manager – Asia Asset Management

About the role

This position leads Sun Life’s Asia‑focused total‑return fixed income portfolios and acts as backup/co‑portfolio manager for buy‑and‑maintain strategies within the general account. The primary focus is on managing general‑account portfolios for Sun Life’s insurance businesses, with the potential to expand to additional internal or external clients as the business evolves.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Asia‑focused total‑return and benchmarked portfolios in line with client objectives, risk appetite and performance targets.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, internal policies and investment guidelines.
• Monitor trade orders, resolve trading issues, and collaborate with the trading desk.
• Provide regular performance updates to internal committees and interact with operations, legal, risk, compliance, ALM and corporate stakeholders.
• Develop and pitch new portfolio ideas, support business‑development initiatives and participate in client RFPs.
• Assist the Head of Fixed Income in building team capability and implementing new processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field.
• Professional qualification such as CFA (preferred).
• Minimum 7 years of portfolio management experience, focusing on Asian Fixed Income or Credit.
• Relevant SFC licence and ongoing compliance with licensing requirements.

Required skills

• Portfolio management and performance attribution.
• Proficiency with Bloomberg and Aladdin platforms.
• Deep knowledge of Asian Investment‑Grade Fixed Income and US public bond markets.
• Experience with interest‑rate and foreign‑exchange derivatives hedging.
• Familiarity with insurance and MPF regulatory frameworks in Hong Kong and other Asian jurisdictions.
