Senior Production Editor, Social Media

About the role

The South China Morning Post is seeking a Senior Production Editor to lead social media distribution and optimisation across all platforms. You will shape the digital image, tone, and brand of SCMP while driving audience growth and engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee SCMP’s digital presence on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging platforms.
• Design, refine and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with newsroom deliverables.
• Produce platform‑specific content, establishing editorial benchmarks for each audience.
• Manage real‑time coverage during breaking news and oversee community management.
• Experiment with new formats, emerging platforms and AI‑assisted tools to expand reach.
• Analyse data and metrics to provide strategic insights and performance recommendations.
• Partner with editorial desks to standardise social publishing SOPs and mentor junior staff.

Required profile

• Degree in Journalism or Media with at least 5 years of newsroom experience in an English‑language publication.
• Proven track record in news gathering, copy editing, CMS operations and fast‑paced social media distribution.
• Deep knowledge of platform algorithms, audience behaviours and strong news judgment.
• Excellent English; Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.
• Based in Hong Kong, working from the Causeway Bay office.
