Medical Scientist – Clinical Development

About the role

The Medical Scientist will lead and support clinical development projects, driving research from laboratory experiments to clinical trials. This senior position involves translating scientific findings into actionable medical insights and marketable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and oversee laboratory experiments and clinical studies investigating disease mechanisms and treatments.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret complex biological, chemical, and clinical data using statistical methods, bioinformatics tools, and specialized software.
• Participate in the discovery, development, and testing of new pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, or therapeutic interventions.
• Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate clinical trials, ensuring compliance with protocols, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA, ICH‑GCP).
• Process and analyze biological specimens (blood, tissue, fluids) using techniques such as cell culture, PCR, microscopy, flow cytometry, sequencing, and immunoassays.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, clinicians, biostatisticians, regulatory affairs, and cross‑functional research teams.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers, grant proposals, and presentations for scientific journals and internal stakeholders.
• Supervise junior scientists, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure compliance with IRB, biosafety, and regulatory guidelines.
• Lead investigator‑initiated and sponsored trials to validate novel products and translate outcomes into business opportunities.

Required profile

• MD, PhD, MBChB or equivalent in Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Medical Science, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related fields.
• 10+ years of experience in a Hospital Authority or similar clinical research environment.
• Proven leadership and project‑management experience in IVD R&D, including NGS and biomarker validation.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills with bioinformatics and clinical teams.
• Highly self‑motivated, able to work under pressure, and fluent in written and spoken English.
