Staff Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design, development, and optimization of innovative optical communication products and manufacturing processes at Lumentum Operations LLC.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and analysis of new product concepts, components, and assemblies using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo.
• Develop and implement testing methodologies to validate designs, assess performance, and identify improvement areas.
• Collaborate with electrical, optical, manufacturing, and reliability teams to ensure seamless product integration and manufacturability.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of mechanical failures and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Generate detailed engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, test plans, and reports.
• Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and feedback.
• Evaluate and select materials and manufacturing processes, including machining, injection molding, stamping, and additive manufacturing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in optical, telecommunications, or semiconductor industries.
• Proven ability to solve complex mechanical problems through analytical and experimental methods.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• SolidWorks and Creo (3D CAD software).
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, injection molding, stamping, additive manufacturing.
• Design for Reliability (DFR) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
