Assistant Manager, Technical and Productions (Performing Arts)

About the role

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is seeking an Assistant Manager to support the technical and production functions of its performing‑arts venues. You will work closely with internal teams, artistic partners and external contractors to ensure that performances, rehearsals and events are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest artistic standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing technical requirements for indoor, outdoor and temporary performances.
• Coordinate pre‑production activities, set‑up, and on‑site execution with venue users and production crews.
• Liaise with internal departments, artistic partners, hirers, contractors and technical staff to facilitate smooth delivery of technical services.
• Support the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, operational guidelines and technical documentation.
• Supervise technicians, stage crew, contractors and casual staff in the safe use of theatre equipment.
• Manage manpower allocation, logistics and venue readiness for each event.
• Monitor condition, maintenance, storage and stock control of technical equipment, and assist with procurement and lifecycle planning.
• Participate in health‑and‑safety risk assessments, incident follow‑up and compliance monitoring.
• Prepare reports, presentation materials, procurement documents and other administrative records as required.

Required profile

• Recognised higher diploma, university degree or equivalent in Technical Theatre, Stage Management, Production Management or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in technical and production operations within performing‑arts venues, theatres or live‑entertainment institutions.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and manage complex technical logistics.
• Strong understanding of theatre safety standards and venue policies.

Required skills

• Technical theatre knowledge (stage equipment, rigging, lighting, sound systems).
• Experience supervising technical crews and managing contractor relationships.
• Ability to develop and maintain SOPs, operational guidelines and technical documentation.
• Competence in health‑and‑safety risk assessment and compliance procedures.
