Associate Director, APAC Regional Medical Affairs - International Markets

About the role

Ascendis Pharma, a global biopharmaceutical company focused on rare diseases and oncology, is looking for an Associate Director to lead its International Markets team, which focuses on China, Japan, Australia, South Korea and Southeast Asia. The role supports APAC partners, builds long-term relationships with key physicians, sites and partners, and leads medical strategy and tactics across APAC. It reports to the Head of International Medical Affairs and works closely with the medical directors for Hypoparathyroidism and Growth Disorders, the APAC commercial manager and other internal teams. The role should be based in a large APAC hub, with preference for Hong Kong, Singapore or Malaysia, and is expected to be remote with about 25% travel.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the scientific expert for medical affairs across APAC and design and implement medical strategies and tactical plans
• Support the development of clinical and real-world evidence and input into lifecycle management activities
• Oversee compassionate use programs and grants as needed, with a deep understanding of compliance in APAC markets
• Build relationships with KOLs and key centres, stay up to date on the competitive landscape and new therapies, and lead medical education programs for the APAC region
• Collaborate with IM medical, commercial and business operations teams and manage relationships with key external vendors and agencies
• Mentor and lead medical teams and other stakeholders, fostering a culture of functional excellence

Required profile

• Advanced degree (MD / PhD / PharmD) in life sciences with 7+ years of experience in medical affairs
• Substantial knowledge or experience in rare diseases
• English and Mandarin spoken
• Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder management, strategic and critical thinking, and excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to lead by influence, solve problems, resolve conflicts and adapt to different cultures
