Commis Chef - Pastry

About the role

The Pastry Commis Chef supports the pastry team in delivering high‑quality desserts and cold dishes in a luxury hotel environment. This entry‑level position involves preparing ingredients, operating kitchen equipment, and ensuring food safety standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Portion, chop, wash, peel, and store fresh fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients.
• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes.
• Prepare and cook hot and cold foods, following quality, presentation, and safety standards.
• Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers safely and efficiently.
• Test foods for doneness and monitor food quality throughout preparation.
• Set up and break down work stations, and maintain a clean, sanitized kitchen environment.
• Check and record temperatures of appliances and food items.
• Follow company safety policies, report incidents, and maintain professional appearance.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related kitchen or pastry experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 lb, and perform repetitive motions.

Required skills

• Operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Food preparation techniques including weighing, measuring, mixing, and portioning.
• Knowledge of food safety, temperature monitoring, and sanitation procedures.
• Ability to follow recipes and presentation standards accurately.
