Lead Product Designer (AI‑focused Media Products)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Lead Product Designer to tackle ambiguous, cross‑product challenges across our news, subscription, education and new‑initiative platforms. You will work closely with product, engineering, editorial and commercial teams to shape intelligent, personalized experiences for a global audience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design from early ideas through to launch, and keep improving it after release.
• Frame problems clearly and decide what’s worth solving, especially when uncertainty is high.
• Design AI‑powered experiences that are genuinely useful, trustworthy and appropriate for a news brand.
• Use AI tools to accelerate research, ideation and prototyping, and share best practices with the team.
• Leverage research and data to guide decisions, running your own studies when needed.
• Collaborate early with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, well‑built and aligned with our design system.
• Set a high bar for design quality and mentor other designers to grow.
• Engage stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership, to move ideas forward.

Required profile

• 8+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of shipped digital products.
• Experience across varied product types such as media, subscription, education or similar.
• Proven track record of leading complex work without a clear brief.
• Hands‑on experience with AI as a design tool and within shipped products, with a clear sense of its value.
• Strong craft, clear thinking, and comfort moving between strategy and detail.
• Excellent communication and the ability to influence without authority.
