Legal Counsel - Insurance (Hong Kong & Macau)

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Legal Counsel to provide legal advice and support on its Macau operations, covering products, distribution, marketing, claims and complaints. The role also advises on Hong Kong and Macau operations and distribution channels, and works closely with internal stakeholders across Hong Kong, Macau, Asia and North America. The arrangement is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and advise on claims, complaints and litigation matters in Macau, developing strategies to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting the company's interests
• Draft, review and negotiate agreements and other documents for Hong Kong and Macau operations and distribution channels
• Advise on intra-group agreements and general corporate, commercial and governance matters
• Advise on business projects, new business models and strategic initiatives, and on consultations of new laws and regulations in Hong Kong and Macau
• Support regulatory submissions and filings to the IA, the AMCM and other relevant authorities, and monitor legal and regulatory changes
• Work with internal stakeholders in Hong Kong, Macau, Asia and North America, instruct and supervise external counsel, and draft, review and update agreement templates
• Prepare regular regulatory reports, conduct legal research and perform other assigned duties

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience in the insurance or financial services industry
• Proven knowledge of Hong Kong insurance law and the legal and regulatory framework in Macau
• Prior experience with the IA, the AMCM or other financial regulators is an advantage
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines, with strong analytical, problem-solving and commercial skills
