Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support for Manulife’s operations in Hong Kong and Macau, covering product distribution, marketing, claims, complaints and regulatory matters. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams across Asia and North America to ensure compliance and protect the company’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support on Macau operations, including products, distribution, marketing, claims and complaints.
• Manage and advise on claims, complaints and litigation matters in Macau, developing strategies to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting the company’s interests.
• Draft, review and negotiate agreements related to Hong Kong and Macau operations and distribution channels.
• Advise on intra‑group agreements, corporate, commercial and governance matters for the company and its group.
• Support business projects, new business models and strategic initiatives with legal advice.
• Monitor legal and regulatory changes in Hong Kong and Macau and advise internal stakeholders.
• Instruct, monitor and supervise external counsel and maintain agreement templates.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with at least 8 years of post‑qualification experience in insurance or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of Hong Kong insurance laws and Macau regulatory framework, with experience dealing with the IA, AMCM or similar bodies.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and commercial sense.
