Legal Counsel – Wealth Management

About the role

The Legal Counsel will provide specialised legal support to the Wealth Management (WM) teams, primarily based in Hong Kong, and to regional offices across other jurisdictions. The role involves drafting documentation, advising on transactions and regulatory matters, and acting as a trusted legal partner to the business.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal support to WM teams in Hong Kong and other regions.
• Draft and advise on Wealth Management related documentation.
• Proactively identify business issues and deliver commercially pragmatic advice.
• Support regional offices and participate in regional projects and initiatives.
• Advise business teams on legal, structural, reputational and transaction‑related matters.
• Respond to regulatory initiatives, market‑structure reforms and policy work.
• Attend internal meetings on behalf of the Legal department.
• Collaborate closely with the LCD on matters affecting the WM business and general legal issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in law.
• Minimum 3 years of post‑qualification experience (PQE) in an international law firm; in‑house experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with wealth management or private banking business and general commercial matters.
• Common‑law qualification (outside Hong Kong) preferred.
• Strong technical, commercial and communication abilities, with the capacity to prioritize competing workloads.
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese.
