Systems Analyst – Web (IT Office)

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Analyst (Web) to join the Information Technology Office of Hong Kong Metropolitan University. The role focuses on developing, maintaining and supporting the university’s web services and WordPress‑based platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and support backend components for web services and WordPress sites.
• Maintain and optimise MySQL databases, including performance tuning, query optimisation and routine maintenance.
• Develop, customise, test and troubleshoot WordPress plugins.
• Design and integrate APIs for internal and third‑party systems.
• Assist with administration and optimisation of related database tools and backend utilities.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and improve website stability, scalability and performance.
• Support cloud‑based hosting and deployment tasks, primarily in Microsoft Azure environments.
• Apply security best practices, including access control, patching and vulnerability mitigation.
• Participate in stress, load and performance testing to ensure reliability.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, infrastructure and content teams to deliver secure, efficient web solutions.

Required profile

• A recognised degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in web backend development and database management.

Required skills

• MySQL database administration and optimisation.
• WordPress development, plugin customisation and troubleshooting.
• API design and integration (RESTful services).
• Microsoft Azure cloud services.
