Electronic Trading Associate Summer Internship 2027

About the role

Barclays is offering a 10-week summer internship in its Electronic Trading Associate programme in Hong Kong, open to students in their penultimate year of university. The programme introduces candidates to the world of finance and technology, with real projects and a mentor and line manager guiding them. It sits within the Markets business, which helps institutional investors identify opportunities, manage risk and generate returns.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement quantitative models and strategies to improve decision-making, pricing and risk management.
• Design and maintain high-performance trading platforms and risk systems, adding new features to improve reliability and user experience.
• Research and analyse data to uncover market trends and drive innovation.
• Collaborate with traders, sales teams and Risk and Finance stakeholders to turn business needs into scalable tech tools.
• Work with compliance, IT and strategy teams to resolve system issues and improve trading infrastructure.
• Learn to use statistical models and algorithmic coding, test machine learning techniques and help expand the computational platform.

Required profile

• Pursuing a post-graduate degree with an anticipated graduation between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Ideally a GPA of 3.2 or above.
• Legal right to work in Hong Kong; applicants holding or needing a Barclays-sponsored visa must declare it.

Required skills

• Mathematical and programming skills, ideally in Java, C++ or Python.
• Interest in business and finance and a curiosity to learn.
