Lead Data Scientist – Underwriting AI

About the role

The Lead Data Scientist – Underwriting AI is a senior leadership position responsible for shaping and delivering AI, machine learning and Generative AI solutions that transform underwriting decision‑making across Asia. The role combines deep technical expertise with people leadership and close partnership with underwriting, risk, technology and regional stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy AI, ML and Generative AI models for underwriting use cases such as document intelligence, risk assessment, straight‑through processing and workflow automation.
• Translate complex underwriting problems into scalable analytical and GenAI solutions with measurable business outcomes.
• Drive adoption of AI solutions by embedding them into end‑to‑end underwriting workflows while ensuring governance and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with reinsurers, vendors and external technology providers to co‑develop or integrate advanced underwriting solutions.
• Lead, coach and grow a high‑performing team of data scientists focused on underwriting AI.
• Establish standards for model lifecycle management, performance monitoring and value tracking.
• Contribute to AI and data strategy, data optimization, monetisation and external data enrichment.
• Act as a trusted advisor to underwriting and business leaders, influencing prioritisation and investment decisions.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in AI, machine learning or related fields.
• Proven track record of delivering large‑scale AI solutions in a regulated environment.
• Strong partnership skills with underwriting, risk, technology and regional business units.
• Experience leading and developing data science teams.
• Ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes and drive alignment.
