Principal Engineer – Tunnel Design

About the role

WSP is seeking experienced tunnel engineers to develop design solutions and deliver detailed designs for tunnels and underground structures. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and providing technical guidance to junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design solutions and detailed designs for TBM, drill‑and‑blast, and mined tunnels.
• Conduct geotechnical and structural analyses for tunnels, underground works and excavation and lateral support (ELS) systems.
• Prepare and review technical submissions, including reports, drawings, calculations and specifications.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely, high‑quality project delivery.
• Support project planning, design management and technical delivery of tunnel and underground engineering projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Corporate Member of HKIE (Geotechnical Division) or RPE(G).
• Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in tunnel, underground structure and ELS design and delivery.
• Strong understanding of local design standards, statutory requirements and approval processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with geotechnical and structural analysis software such as PLAXIS, FLAC and SAP2000.
