Senior Lead Software Engineer – Python, Equities Technology

About the role

J.P. Morgan is seeking a Senior Lead Software Engineer to join the Equities Technology – Prime Services team within Commercial & Investment Banking. The role focuses on building and delivering high‑performance, secure trading systems using Python and advanced AI‑assisted development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Write high‑quality Python code for front‑office technology systems and large‑scale event‑driven architectures.
• Collaborate with traders and quantitative researchers to enhance trading and execution workflows.
• Drive adoption of AI‑assisted engineering tools for code review, test acceleration, and incident analysis.
• Develop secure, production‑grade code and mentor peers through code reviews and debugging.
• Lead communities of practice to promote emerging technologies and automation across the software engineering organization.

Required profile

• Formal training in software engineering with 5+ years of applied experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• In‑depth knowledge of capital markets, equity market microstructure, and electronic trading workflows.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Python (or Java) and experience with large‑scale event‑driven systems.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted development tools and responsible AI practices.
• Familiarity with KDB/q, FIX protocol, market data feeds, and order management systems.
• Knowledge of data‑streaming frameworks such as Kafka or AMPS.
