Technical Underwriting Training & Development Manager - APAC

About the role

The Technical Underwriting Training & Development Manager leads the Training & Development pillar of the Underwriting Excellence program across APAC. Reporting to senior underwriting leaders, you will design and operate competency frameworks, learning pathways and certification models to uplift underwriting capability and ensure consistent decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Define the APAC underwriting capability strategy and multi‑year learning roadmap aligned with underwriting priorities.
• Design, maintain and assess role‑based competency frameworks and certification standards.
• Lead the creation and delivery of blended learning solutions, including e‑learning, virtual workshops, case‑based learning and on‑the‑job assessments.
• Own LMS administration for APAC, managing courses, enrollments, assessments, certification tracking and compliance reporting.
• Develop onboarding pathways, accelerated programs for new underwriters and graduate talent, and mentoring/coaching frameworks.
• Partner with CUOs, Product Heads, HR and change management teams to align training with system releases, new product roll‑outs and governance changes.
• Lead a regional training team, coordinate embedded trainers and drive continuous improvement through feedback and quality assurance.

Required profile

• Significant experience in insurance/underwriting with proven capability development or instructional design experience in a regulated environment.
• Practical underwriting knowledge across commercial and retail lines.
• Demonstrated success building competency frameworks, certification programmes and managing enterprise LMS platforms.
• Strong stakeholder management experience partnering with senior underwriting leaders, HR and product teams.
• Tertiary qualification in education, business, insurance, HR or related field; Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent is desirable.
