VP Full Stack Developer - Liquid Financing

About the role

Barclays is hiring a VP Full Stack Developer for its Liquid Financing team in Hong Kong. The role helps engineer the next generation of the global Stock Borrow & Lending (SBL) and Secured Finance technology platform, Magics, which covers trade capture, lifecycle management, inventory management and settlements across APAC, EMEA and AMER. It sits alongside the Front Office SBL team and requires deep SBL knowledge, rapid decision-making and the ability to turn market needs into robust engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test and deploy ePrime application components covering UI (Angular), services (Java Spring) and database (SQL).
• Modernize legacy components into scalable, containerized microservices deployed on OpenShift.
• Deliver front-to-back solutions across business, regulatory and control requirements, with security, stability, capacity and maintainability.
• Work with SBL traders and the middle office, turning trading desk needs into technical designs and supporting intraday trading through incident triage and rapid fixes.
• Contribute to the architectural direction of Magics and manage relationships with upstream/downstream systems, vendor gateways and internal control functions.
• Ensure production readiness through monitoring, alerting, data integrity and operational resilience.
• As a Vice President, advise stakeholders, manage risk and controls, plan resources and budgets, and either lead a team or act as a subject matter expert guiding technical direction.

Required profile

• Full-stack engineering experience with backend (Java, Spring Boot, REST microservices) and frontend (Angular, HTML/CSS/TypeScript).
• Deep SBL / equity finance experience, including borrowing/lending workflows, recalls, returns, marks, collateral, booking flows and vendor gateway interactions.
• Working knowledge of capital markets and front-office trading processes.
• Ability to work in high-pressure environments with traders and senior stakeholders, and to explain technology to business and vice versa.

Required skills

• SQL (Oracle/MS SQL) and advanced query optimization.
• OpenShift, containers, Linux and Git.
• OO design principles, Agile/Scrum and test-driven development.
• Desirable: event-driven architectures, Kafka/Solace, workflow automation, DevOps and observability tooling, and knowledge of the Prime Financing ecosystem.
