Associate – Export & Agency Finance (Japanese speaking)

About the role

This position supports the origination, structuring and execution of Export & Agency Finance (EAF) transactions across Asia Pacific, with a focus on Japanese Export Credit Agency‑backed deals and inbound financing for Asian importers. The associate will work under senior guidance, engage with Japanese stakeholders and travel frequently across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in originating, structuring and executing Japanese ECA‑supported transactions, including buyer credits, supplier credits and untied loans backed by JBIC and/or NEXI.
• Prepare presentations, term sheets, proposals and related documentation from pitch to closing.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Japanese exporters, importers, banks and ECA contacts (JBIC/NEXI).
• Collaborate with Santander coverage teams across APAC to identify inbound EAF opportunities.
• Contribute to credit proposals, liaise with risk teams and support credit approval processes.
• Negotiate loan documentation with internal departments and external advisors.
• Support broader APAC EAF transactions involving other ECAs/MLAs such as KEXIM, Sinosure, ADB and AIIB.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in EAF, structured trade finance or corporate banking, preferably with exposure to Japanese ECAs.
• Native‑level proficiency in Japanese or proven international experience with Japanese stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of ECA‑supported financing structures and credit assessment.
• Ability to work independently on client‑facing activities while receiving guidance.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills in a matrix environment.
