Design Manager - Data Centre Construction

About the role

Turner & Townsend is looking for a Design Manager for data centre construction projects in Hong Kong. The role leads project set-up and end-to-end design delivery, coordinating multi-disciplinary consultant teams and owning design governance under the in-house workflow framework.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project set-up and end-to-end design delivery, aligned with programme, budget and technical requirements
• Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary consultant teams and chair design reviews
• Implement and govern in-house design engineering guidelines and standardised design solutions
• Control and report on project cost and schedule, including budgets, forecasts and milestone planning
• Oversee change control, including budget reviews, contracts, change orders and invoice approvals
• Resolve escalated RFIs, manage technical submittals and co-manage commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
• Contribute to monthly project reporting, pipeline metrics and insurance reporting
• Champion buildability, safety and quality by design, and feed lessons learned back into design standards

Required profile

• Strong mission-critical building delivery experience, ideally in a multi-disciplinary design environment
• Data centre design experience preferred, or highly serviced building designs in the mission-critical sector
• Corporate member of HKIE in building services, mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent with a design background, preferred
• Ability to explain complex technical issues clearly and defend design decisions with senior stakeholders
• Able to work proactively with project teams, contractors and specialists under competing pressures

Required skills

• Familiarity with MEP-driven fit-out works and key technical areas of the data centre industry
• Knowledge of project gateway and change control processes (as client or client representative preferred)
